A leg bye in cricket occurs when the batter does not hit the ball with their bat but the ball strikes their body, typically the leg. If the batter is hit by the ball and they can take a run, it is counted as a leg bye. The runs are added to the team's total, but the batter is not credited with them. Leg byes can happen when the batter is trying to avoid the ball or when the ball deflects off their body in a way that allows them to take a run. The ball must not hit the bat for it to be considered a leg bye.
